Evaluation: The Effectiveness

3rd December 2011

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I think the combination of my main product and ancillary tasks is very effective. To go with my main task I have created a DVD and magazine cover. All three of these are closely linked together through the theme of blue peter with the house colour scheme running throughout them all. The theme of Blue peter is obvious within the children's opening sequence as the mise-en-scene is of a ship in the sea with a Blue Peter symbol on its flag. The Blue Peter theme is just as obvious in the ancillary tasks with the recognisable Blue Peter name being large and noticeable on both the DVD and Magazine covers.
Throughout the ancillary tasks I kept to the same fonts with the majority of the text being ‘Just Act Casual’ a handwritten font. I used this font as I wanted to give the effect that the writing was hand written by the presenters of the show. I also used the same style of Polaroid effect photos in both ancillary tasks with them being used on the back of the DVD to give viewers an insight into the DVD and being used down the side of the magazine cover to also give readers and insight into the magazine. I decided to use this effect on both ancillary tasks because it was effective and linked the two publications together. The two ancillary tasks are also linked by the magazine having a ’The Making Of’ DVD section on its cover, this is to let the readers see the making of the Blue Peter DVD.
